Caecal anomaly in a domestic fowl

PM examination of a White Leghorn pullet revealed chalky white uric acid crystals in the pericardium, liver and kidneys and only one caecum. The right caecum was of apparently normal size and shape, the left caecum was completely absent with no sign of its development at the ileocaecal colonic junction.
