Afghanistan has participated in trials of cereals conducted by organizations such as FAO, USDA and CIMMYT and as a result many high-yielding varieties have been identified; some of the high-yielding wheat varieties are listed. Of approximately 2400 varieties screened during 1971-1972, 40 were free from Puccinia spp.
