This patient required only three hemodialysis treatments before the restoration of renal function. After it was determined that the patient was intravascularly volume depleted, she was challenged with increased fluid and diuretics to which she responded with decreasing azotemia and increased urine output. An infection of left leg wound was treated with multiple antibiotics and resolved. Her affect became less blunted as treatment progressed and it is difficult to differentiate between the changes in mental status/sensorium due to the azotemia vs. the underlying emotional problems. The patient is presently receiving physical therapy in a protected environment to optimize the mobility of the left leg.
