An infant, 24 days old, transferred to exclusive formula diet, presented with clinical signs of magnesium poisoning due to overdose of MgO prescribed as a laxative. Serum and urinary Mg reached 7.94 and 97.55 mmol/litre. Treatment with hyperhydration, diuretics and salt, also calcium and insulin intravenously, was successful. An exchange transfusion was given.
