Daily DM intake of 56 subjects between 20 and 60 years old from Wusterhausen and Vetschau in Brandenburg and Jena and Bad Langensalza in Thuringia was assessed on 7 consecutive days by means of the duplicate method. The Zn, Mn, Cu, Mo, I and Ni content of food and beverage DM and the daily intake of these trace elements were determined. The diet contained zinc 24-29, manganese 6.8-9.2, copper 1.9-2.6, molybdenum 0.17-0.22, iodine 0.10-0.18, and nickel 0.36-0.68 mg/kg DM. The adults consumed zinc 6.7-11.0 mg, manganese 2.0-3.8 mg, copper 0.54-0.92 mg, molybdenum 47-89 micro g, iodine 30-67 micro g and nickel 111-256 micro g per day. Geographic area had an effect on the Mn, I and Ni intake. The higher DM intake resulted in a better trace element supply of male subjects. Copper, molybdenum and iodine requirement recommended by the WHO were not met.
