Hired labour and rural labour markets in Asia: 151-175

Document Number: 366100
Drawing on farm-level data from the districts of Chom Thong and San Kamphaeng, this study addresses: (1) the overall employment situation in sample villages; (2) labour allocation in alternative income earning activities; (3) demand for hired and family labour in agricultural and non agricultural activities; (4) labour supply patterns; and (5) the impact of institutional and technological changes on labour demand and supply. Family labour constitutes the most important source of labour in the study area, although the overall significance of hired labour may improve with growing commercialization and non-farm activities in the region.
