A retrospective study of 3402 cases from 28 administrative areas and 5 towns was undertaken to examine the role of natural foci of HFRS infection in the Lithuanian Republic. No occupational risk was observed for forestry workers. A serological study of suspected cases showed 2 to have antibodies. They lived in Radvilishkski region where in 1967 a patient died from HFRS and where some 13% of small forest mammals were seropositive. Natural foci of infection in small mammals were confirmed in the 5 central administrative areas.Rosslyn Kay.
