In Algeria, foci of Mediterranean visceral leishmaniasis have been recorded in coastal mountainous areas in the Departments of Constantine and Annaba, in Algiers, in the vicinity of Tlemcen and in some parts of the Sahara. In 22 patients found by the authors in various parts of Algeria over several years the picture was typical for visceral leishmaniasis in children.
