The study of rooming-in was carried out at the maternity ward and newborn nursery of Sanglah Hospital, Denpasar [Indonesia] from 1st November 1984 to 31st October 1985. It shows that the change of hospital practices from the former system where mothers and their babies were separately hospitalized to the rooming-in system, which has many advantages not only for mothers and babies but also for the hospital as well.
