High cholesterol values accelerate the development of coronary heart disease. Therefore they must be normalized within the framework of primary and secondary prevention. Apart from cholesterol, other treatable and untreatable risk factors play a decisive role. The simultaneous presence of these factors determines the intensity of the lipid-lowering therapy.
