Samples of UF-bonded particleboards (100x40 and 15-18 mm thick) from different Polish mills were stored at room temperature with free air access for 3 yr. Periodic measurements of formaldehyde emission were made over 5 days in a climatic chamber at 25 degrees C and 45% RH, with one air change per hour and a loading factor of 1 msuperscript 2 of board per msuperscript 3 of volume. Formaldehyde emission decreased by more than 50% during the first 3 months, after which decreases in emission were slight. In the period 1-3 yr after production, formaldehyde emission was 0.03-0.07 mg/msuperscript 2 per hour regardless of the amount released in the period just after production.
