The fertility behaviour studied on 353 couples of the Sugalis, a tribal population, shows that it is at its biological maximum. The crude birth rate, the general and total fertility rates are comparable to the highest levels observed for any population. The child-woman ratio also confirms potential growth trend of the Sugalis. The cumulative fertility measures are also high in this population. The influence of age at marriage on fertility is inverse as is expected and the occupational variability in the Sugalis also has an influence on fertility behaviour.
