Circling in mice caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa

The organism was isolated from the brain, inner and middle ear, and external ear canal of 185 mice from a group of 213 exhibiting spontaneous signs of 'circling'. Septicaemic death and circling were the main features observed when the isolate was inoculated experimentally. Although a low incidence of circling was produced through the natural contact route and none through nasal instillation, circling was produced in as high as 40% of the mice inoculated intravenously.
