The interaction between copper and immune function is reviewed and possible immunomodulatory roles for Cu are discussed. Cu deficiency results in decreased humoral and cell-mediated, as well as non-specific immune function. Impairment of immune function may be correlated with an increased incidence of infection and higher mortality rates observed in animals deficient in Cu.
