A study to assess the dietary habits of Mishimi women (n=200) of reproductive age in Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh, India revealed that all the women studied were non-vegetarian . The meal pattern varied with the occupation of the family members and the usual pattern being two meals per day for majority of the households. Boiling was the main method of cooking for all the food items. Consumption of the cereals, roots and tubers and other vegetables, milk, sugar, fats and oils were inadequate. Occasional consumption of meat and fish was recorded. The intake of energy, protein and niacin was adequate for all age-groups. Other nutrients such as fat, iron, beta -carotene, thiamin, riboflavin and ascorbic acid were lower than the Recommended Dietary Allowances (RDA) for all age groups. The present study suggests that nutrient education should be imparted to correct the prevailing state of dietary imbalance and to bring about a healthy change in the society.
