In 1981 a faecal survey was conducted in 7 villages in Arunachal Pradesh, India. Of 460 specimens examined, 396 (86.1%) were positive for one or more species of intestinal parasite. Ascaris lumbricoides and Trichuris trichiura were each found in 107 (45%), hookworm in 188 (41%) and Giardia lamblia in 73 (16%). Strongyloides stercoralis and Entamoeba histolytica were each found only in 5. Non-pathogenic protozoa were common.
