New foci of Bulinus abyssinicus in the lower Awash

Live B. abyssinicus were found in 1985 for the first time in main drain canals and ponds in the lower Awash valley, Ethiopia. It is suggested that the snail is spreading to the irrigation system. The importance of developing a control programme to prevent further colonization of the irrigation system is stressed.
