Tuberculosis of the anal region is now uncommon, its incidence having declined over the. last two decades. However, cases of perianal TB still occur sporadically. Diagnosis is usually delayed, mainly because of the low occurrence rate of the disease. Diagnosis is established either by the presence of acid-fast bacilli or, histologically, by biopsy specimens. Response to antitubercular treatment presents another indirect confirmation of the diagnosis.
