To assess the field performance of BISA pump irrigation systems in terms of pump-irrigated area, irrigation efficiency, water adequacy and water equity and to determine the cost of irrigation water associated with the use of BISA pumps, a study was carried out in five operating BISA pump irrigation systems in Ilocos Norte. Results showed that the pumps operated at a fairly high level of efficiency. However, the area served by the pumps was less than the designed irrigable area. The irrigation efficiency obtained in Suyo-ISA system was 53%. The average operating costs for all the systems was P421/ha while the average cost of the system was P1156/ha. The major problem of the farmer members was the high cost of pump operation brought about by the high cost of electric energy.
