PM examination of 3 hens with clinical signs of weakness, dyspnoea, diarrhoea and cyanosis showed focal necrosis and a greenish discoloration of the liver and petechial haemorrhages on ovarian follicles. The hens came from a flock, with a mortality rate of about 15%, on a farm near Konya, Turkey. Three strains of A. calcoaceticus var anitratus were isolated in pure culture from samples of liver. In vitro sensitivity tests revealed that isolates were sensitive to chloramphenicol, gentamicin, colistin, carbenicillin, erythromycin and tetracycline but resistant to penicillin, ampicillin, streptomycin and nitrofurantoin. Blood samples tested for mycoplasmosis, Newcastle disease, infectious laryngotracheitis and infectious bronchitis were all negative.
