Intestinal microflora of patients before and after operations for diffuse polyposis of the large intestine

A preoperative examination was carried out in 36 patients with diffuse polyposis of the large intestine. It was found that there were a decrease in the total number of microorganisms, not great species variety (as compared to healthy subjects), and depression of obligate anaerobic microbes. The state of intestinal microflora was examined in 147 patients who were operated on for diffuse polyposis or had various types of extensive resections of the large intestine or in whom this organ was removed. Analysis of the findings has shown that microbial biocenosis forms in early postoperative terms and it resembles the preoperative biocenosis. The microbial composition does not depend on the type of surgical intervention and remains unchanged during a long term of observation.
