Detection of virions morphologically identical to the influenza virus in the small intestine of piglets

The electron-microscopic examination was conducted to study negatively contrasted preparations from the small intestine content of newborn pigs suffering from diarrhea, mortinatus pigs and fetal abortion. Particles morphologically identical to the influenza virus were found in the above preparations. Antibodies to the influenza A virus and coronavirus of pigs are revealed in the immune sera produced for the population of detected viruses and in sera of the aborted sows.
