Cellular changes after laser therapy in mild uterine cervical dysplasia

A series of 10 women with mild dysplasia of the uterine cervix was treated with laser and they were followed with daily cytocolposcopic surveillance of the healing process. Bleeding and distortion of the epithelal cells were the main features during the first day. An inflammatory process then started which lasted 21 days. In 1 patients the metaplastic process started as early as 72 hours after treatment and was maintained for 28 days after treatment. Complete healing took 21 days in 2 patients and 28 days in 8. There was good correlation between the cytological and colposcopic findings of the cervix after laser vaporization.
