Lymphocyte subpopulations from patients with cervical uterine carcinoma undergoing radiation therapy

A group of 27 female patients with cervical cancer undergoing conventional external radiotherapy (60Co) was divided according to the dose of radiation (rad) applied to the tumors up to the date of performance of this study. T lymphocyte subpopulations were quantified by means of the rosette assay from peripheral blood samples of these 27 patients. The proportion of the T lymphocyte subpopulation bearing Fc receptors for IgG (Tg cells) was significantly higher in this group of patients compared to a control group of 28 healthy individuals. In addition, the Tg cell subpopulations from the subgroup of patients who received radiation doses < 1000 rad were significantly higher than those from patients that had received < 1000 rad.
