HLA & other factors influencing survival of transplanted kidney

A total of 134 patients with renal transplants from living related donors were analysed. Kidney grafts from donors aged 30 yr or below had significantly better survival than kidney grafts from older donors. Graft survival was not affected by the number of dialysis before transplant but was affected by the number of transfusions. More than 5 units of blood transfused before transplant marginally increased graft survival at 6 months. The graft survival was better in two haplotype identical transplants and was significant at 3 yr (P < 0.005).
