Reactive lymphadenopathies and the criteria for their differential diagnosis from non-Hodgkin's lymphomas

As a result of the combined investigations conducted in patients with reactive lymphadenopathy morphocytochemical and immunological characteristics of lymphoid elements of the lymph nodes have been established. Differences in the intracellular metabolism have been revealed in lymphocytes of the lymph nodes in patients with reactive lymphadenopathy and those with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, that can be used in their differential diagnosis at early stages of the disease. In contrast to reactive lymphadenopathy, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma is characterized by a significant increase of polysaccharide content with atypical for lymphocytes (in the norm) diffuse, diffuse-granular reactions, by low activity of acid nonspecific esterase and .beta.-glucuronidase, by increased homogenous nucleoli and nucleolar coefficient.
