Cancer of the uterine body and pathological endometrial hyperplasia

In an analysis of 4,5 years of prophylactic examinations of women living in the region of Kielce the authors determined the place of endometrial carcinoma in the total number of female genital carcinoma diagnosed in that time period. The incidence of risk factors increasing the frequency of carcinoma of the endometrium and its precursors was analysed also. The examined women (89,000) had 310 pathological endometrial hyperplasia, 34 endometrial carcinomas, 114 cervical carcinomas, 18 ovarian and 4 vulvar cancers. According to the authors, endometrial carcinoma was in the second place among carcinomas of female genitals in this prophylactic programme. Among numerous possible risk factors for endometrial carcinoma a significant role is played in this material by hypertension. Pathological endometrial hyperplasia as precursor of endometrial carcinoma, in view of its frequent occurrence in women, is an important clinical problem indicating the need of endometrial screening into the set of prophylactic examinations.
