As mentioned in the previous pages, five steps of chick embryos development were tested by evaluating both 5th and 5HIAA behaviour within the brain area. At the same time, the behaviour of mentioned media were evaluated at the hepatic level also. Then the behaviour of the serotoninergic system, after administration of tranylcipromine and of physiological solution in other embryo patterns, was observed. Thus, it was brought to evidence how TCP treatment caused a significant increase of brain and hepatic 5HT during all development steps under testing, except for the 16th day of incubation. MAO effect seems to get exhausted on the 16th day. It appears that the 5HT increase starting from the 18th day as observed in this organs is not caused by the tranylcipromine action on MAO, but it is assumed that the drug has determined an upward setting of the serotoninergic system, which also changes the physiological decrease of 5HT on the 17th day, no longer shown in the curves referring to TCP treatment. Through this treatment 5HIAA keeps at lower levels than the tests and embryos treated with physiological solution; however, it becomes significant on the 14th day only, with an upward escape between the 18th and 20th days. The latter data should probably be related to the serontinergic increase as described above.
