Hypervitaminosis A in the rainbow trout: counteraction by vitamin C

Four groups of rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri) were reared from the time of feeding in the alevin stage on a semi-synthetic diet with vitamin A 88 IU/g and without ascorbic acid or with 0.42 mg/g moist diet; one group had vitamin A reduced to 7 IU/g without ascorbic acid. Fish were killed after feeding for between 41 and 47 weeks in which the adequately fed fish gained on average 341 g.
