The isolation of a partially purified cAMP-binding protein from T. cruzi (a Venezuelan human isolate, EP) is described. It was compared with a well-characterized type II regulatory subunit of cAMP-dependent protein kinase from bovine cardiac muscle and found to differ: in the ratio obtained by assaying its cAMP-binding activity by 2 different methods; apparent native MW (144-150 000); denatured MW (62-67 000); sedimentation coefficient (s20,w = 8.25); lack of association with a phosphotransferase activity; different behaviour with respect to cAMP analogues.
