A seroepidemiological study on amoebiasis was carried out in the village of Hebei Province by using the Indirect Fluorescent Antibody Test. In the population studied, the positive rate of Entamoeba histolytica antibody (13.2%) was significantly higher than positive rate of E. histolytica cysts in stool (9.4%); there was an age-dependent increase in the attack rate of E. histolytica. From these results we conclude that there were not only many infection sources of E. histolytica in the village, but also the prevalence of invasive amoebiasis was quite serious there. The epidemiological significances of the low serum antibody titers were discussed preliminarily in this paper.
