Lactic dehydrogenase activity in plasma and synovial fluid of normal and Mycoplasma hyorhinis-infected swine

Total LDH concentrations in plasma and synovial fluid from normal and arthritic pigs were determined colorimetrically, and the isoenzyme composition by electrophoretic separation. Differences in total LDH concentrations and in isoenzyme distribution existed between plasma and synovial fluid, between various weight classes of normal pigs, and between normal and hyorhinis-infected pigs. Infection with M. hyorhinis had no demonstrable effect on total LDH activity of plasma, but produced a considerable increase in total activity of synovial fluid. Infection reduced the propagation of LDH1 and the proportion of LDH3 in both plasma and synovial fluid.
