Morphological studies on the lung of the rat exposed to aluminium dust

Rats were exposed to aluminium dust for 12-14 months. The dust concentration was about 20,000 particles/ml of air. Foci of dust cells were observed in the lung. There was proliferation of reticular fibers in these foci. Hyperplasia and desquamation of type II pulmonary epithelia appeared together. The pathological changes of aluminium pneumoconiosis were considered as desquamative interstitial pneumonia(DIP).
