The results of dynamic changes in the cardiovascular condition and activity of erythrocyte membrane enzymes which participate in the metabolism of high-energy phosphates are presented on the basis of a hospital study of 150 alcoholic patients for 3 weeks. The character and the degree of manifestation of electrocardiographic and biochemical changes in the examined patients have demonstrated that adaptation to a long-term action of alcohol develops at a certain stage of the disease but its mechanisms are exhausted at stage III of alcoholism. The character of changes restitution during 3 weeks of abstinence depends on the disease stage. The fact whether these changes are reversible or irreversible is discussed with a purpose prescription of active cardiotropic treatment.
