Twenty schistosomal hepatosplenomegalic patients and ten normal controls, were subjected to full clinical and laboratory investigations, as well as abdominal ultrasonography, with special concentration on the size of the gall bladder before and after fatty meals. The results revealed statistically significant increase in incidence of gall stones, thickened wall and contracted gall bladder with delayed evacuation after fatty meals in schistosomal patients. It is concluded that dyspepsia present in schistosomal hepatosplenomegalic patients is not only due to portal venous congestion, but in part due to gall bladder disease, as stones or affection of the wall by bilharzia ova which becomes thickened or affection of muscular coat which becomes fibrotic and contracted.
