It is noted that the combined use of survey and participatory evaluation methodologies produces macro- and micro-knowledge of reality, each informing and enhancing the other. The paper presents a case study of an internal evaluation of the training component of a large, long-term, multi million dollar rural development project in Bangladesh, that combined both the traditional survey and participatory evaluation methods. The evaluation was facilitated by the project's Canadian resource team based in Dhaka, as well as by the Bangladesh Rural Development Board, the project's implementing agency. Data were gathered from a survey of 2 104 beneficiaries, and 126 field functionaries.
