HLA antigens and blood groups in bancroftian filariasis

The role of ABO blood grouping and HLA antigens as genetic markers on the pathogenesis of bancroftian filariasis was studied on 78 microfilaraemic patients. The results revealed that individuals with blood group AB and HLA-All, B5 and B16 were mostly susceptible to filarial infections. On the other hand, patients with blood group B and AB and HLA-B5 were more liable to filarial complications.
