Cesarean section in a small gynecological-obstetrical department

Cesarean sections were analysed in a small provincial hospital where out of 4581 labours in the period from Feb. 2, 1979 to Dec. 31, 1985 in 353 cases caesarean section was done, i.e. in 7.71% of labours. A steady rise was observed in the percent of labours leading to caesarean section. The most frequent indications to this delivery were: threatening fetal asphyxia, pelvic presentation in primiparae and previous caesarean section. The analysis showed that healing of the myometrial wound was better, the number of complications was lower, and the postoperative course was smooth if the myometrium was sutured in one layer after elevation of the uterus over the abdominal wall, which confirms the observations of other authors.
