The experiment was conducted with adult rats. In early periods after irradiation with accelerated high-energy helium ions in a dose of 5.0 gray phasic changes with the inhibition of reflex activity in the first 24 h was observed. The recovery of some CNS functions occurring in the 1st wk indicated the developing compensatory processes. The increased latent period, total reaction time, and a high percent of errors indicate the functional weakness of cortical processes. In the late period after irradiation the development of restorative processes with the compensation of disturbed functions was observed.
