The use of promazine hydrochloride in Cesarean section in the dog

Caesarean sections were performed in 73 purebred Beagle bitches for the derivation of gnotobiotic puppies. Promazine hydrochloride was used as a tranquillizer and lidocaine hydrochloride or mepiva-caine hydrochloride used as a local anaesthetic. Of the puppies that were delivered 98% were alive and able to nurse. There was no evidence of tran-quillization in the puppies.
