Anesthesia in 1050 Caesarean sections was analyzed. Local infiltration anesthesia (0.19% of the operations), prolonged peridural anesthesia (PPA), (26.38%) and combined general anesthesia (73.62%) were used. During the operation arterial pressure and pulse were registered and in 82 cases parameters of central hemodynamics were recorded by tetrapolar rheocardiography. The state of the newborn was estimated according to the Apgar scale. Caesarean section carried out under PPA did not cause undesirable hemodynamic changes during anesthesia or surgery. Throughout the operation cardiac activity gradually improved. No anesthetic depression was observed in the newborns. PPA is considered a method of choice for anesthesia of Caesarean section, provided ther are no contraindications.
