Elevated levels of plasma fibronectin have been described in patients with active systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). We demonstrated the presence of high levels of fibronectin fragments in the plasma of a patient during the terminal episode of active SLE. The potential consequences of circulating fibronectin fragments on clearance of immune complexes and microorganisms are discussed.
