Diagnosis and outpatient care of chronic occupational poisoning

The number of new admissions and acknowledgements of chronic occupational intoxications as occupational diseases has been decreasing in the past years. Besides a number of positive reasons for this development, an estimated number of unknown cases is indicated, which certainly exists due to the diagnostic difficulties with chronic intoxications. In order to pursue an extensive and exact diagnosing and dispensatory care, demands are made on diagnostic programmes, interdisciplinary cooperation of physicians, scientists and engineers/technologists of the Institute of Industrial Hygiene of the district and of the counties, of the institutions of university education and of the regional institutions of health service with experienced specialists of chemical-toxicological laboratories. Such an example of cooperation is shown of the district of Erfurt. Under the common management of the Institute of Industrial Hygiene of the Medical Academy Erfurt and of the AHI (B) a working team for Clinical Industrial Medicine confers at the Medical Academy Erfurt, regular consulting hours are held for people suffering from occupational diseases and industrial-medical case demonstrations are performed in the frame of the Regional Society Industrial Hygiene and Industrial Safety of the districts of Erfurt, Gera and Suhl.
