Importance of determining ceruloplasmin and haptoglobin in the blood and transamidinase activity of the urine in evaluating the course of tuberculosis of the urinary tract

Based on the correlation of proteinographic values, blood haptoglobin and ceruloplasmin variations with the urinary activity of oraganospecific enzyme, transaminidase, and the degree of hydroxyprolinuria, the informative value of acute phase proteins has been considered for the assessment of specific renal and urinary inflammations. It has been stated that the evidence of fermenturia and variations of blood ceruloplasmin and haptoglobin are the most sensitive indicators of the process activity in new cases of urinary tuberculosis. Due to the systemic functions of ceruloplasmin and haptoglobin their initial levels fail to be used in prognosing the course of specific renal and urinary lesions. Only a combined study of acute phase proteins in the time course of the disease is of prognostic value.
