A quantitative immunochemical determination of albumin, fibrinogen and its degradation products (IgA, IgM, IgG) in the blood serum, bile and urine of 65 patients with chronic liver and biliary tract diseases, as well as in 13 healthy people (control), is discussed. An increased content of fibrinogen and its degradation products was found in the blood serum, along with a reduced albumin content. A decrease in IgA was observed in patients with aggravated chronic cholecystitis. An increased IgM content was noted in patients with persistent hepatitis. All the proteins being studied were determined in the B and C bile of the aggravated chronic cholecystitis patients, whereas albumin was apparently absent from the bile of those with active hepatitis and cirrhosis of the liver. Albumin and IgG were determined in small amounts in the urine, its content correlating with the activity of and severity of the injury to the liver and biliary tracts. A comprehensive immunochemical determination of proteins in the blood, bile and urine may serve as a differential-diagnostic test in hepatobiliary pathology.
