Correlation between analysis of semen and hormonal concentrations in oligospermia

We present the results of a study conducted in 55 oligospermics attending the infertility clinic. The results of semen analyses, seminal plasma and blood hormone concentrations were evaluated. The infertile patients were classified into 4 groups according to their sperm density. Group I with severe oligospermia had < 5 million/ml., group II had 5-10 million/ml., group III had 10-20-million/ml., and group IV > 20 million/ml. and abnormal motility. The results for each group were compared to those of a group comprised of 16 fertile men who had come for vasectomy. Motility was significantly diminished and FSH levels were significnatly higher with lowered sperm density. The results of the present study indicate that motility and FSH levels seem to be the most representative parameters in idiopathic oligospermia.
