Semen analysis in infertile couples

Semen analysis was done in 2870 infertile couples. Azoospermia was encountered in 19% and oligozoospermia (< 20 million/ml) in 26%. Among those with normospermia, 89% specimens had sperm motility of grade III or grade IV but in oligozoospermics only 60% of the samples showed this motility; 80% of all samples (excluding azoospermic samples) had grade III or grade IV motility and 75% of the samples had active sperm motility > 40% of the sperms. In 97% of samples (excluding azoospermic samples) morphological abnormalities were seen in < 40% sperms and only 3% showed morphological abnormality in > 40% sperm.
