Pancreatic function of chronic pancreatitis patients

To conduct a comprehensive study of pancreatic function in chronic pancreatitis the authors have examined 62 patients with 3-16-year history of the disease. Exocrine pancreatic function was evaluated by blood trypsin level, while endocrine one by insulin, glucagon and C-peptide levels. Fasting samples of trypsin and the hormones and those obtained 1 and 2 h after test-meals were investigated with radioimmunoassay. Spontaneous and postprandial hromonal and trypsin secretion was found affected completely (31.7%) or partially (68.3%). The evidence obtained may advance our knowledge on manifestations of the pathological process thus promoting a precise diagnosis.
