Follow-up of pancreatic cysts by echography in patients with chronic pancreatitis

Patients (17) with chronic pancreatitis presenting with pancreatic the cystic were followed up to 24 mo. (average = 10.4 .+-. 6.5 mo.). Ten of the patients had a single cyst and 7 multiple cysts. Spontaneous regression was observed in the first 12 mo. in 5 of 17 patients (2 with single cyst and 3 with multiple cysts). Complication occurred in 2 patients. The results suggest that patients with chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic cysts should be followed by serial echography for at least 12 mo. before deciding on surgery.
