Neuroendocrinologic developments in sexuality: beta-endorphins in sexual desire phase disorders

Ten individuals (men and women) with desire phase disorders were compared with a control group who attested to a positive sexual profile. The psychologic and physiologic components have been considered. .beta. Endorphins were examined and found to be the only neuroendocrine substance to be significantly altered in desire phase disorders. Data collected affirms the hypothesis. Apparently elevations in .beta.-endorphins alter brain erotic perception/desire and the autonomic variations of the sexual response cycle.
